A US National Institutes of Health-funded study reported that taking calcium supplements does not cause weight loss.

Researchers conducted a randomized-controlled trial of 340 overweight and obese adult patients. They were given a daily dose of 1,500 mg of calcium carbonate or placebo during meals for two years.
