The Justification for the Use of Statins in Primary Prevention: An Intervention Trial Evaluating Rosuvastatin or the JUPITER trial followed 17,800 people with normal LDL-cholesterol, and who  were not considered at risk for heart disease. The researchers were led by Dr. Paul Ridker of the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The JUPITER trial was first published online at the New England Journal of Medicine on 9 November 2008, and was presented at the American Heart Association 2008 Scientific Sessions the same day. The JUPITER Study (Justification for the Use of Statins in Primary Prevention: An Intervention Trial Evaluating Rosuvastatin) is a US study with its objective is to assess the effect of statin intake in apparently normal individuals with a normal LDL-cholesterol level and a high C-reactive protein (CRP) level.
